Through the UniWyo Charity Stripe, UniWyo donates $10 to a local charity for every free throw the University of Wyoming Cowboy Basketball team makes during their regular season.
During the 2018-19 season, our Cowboys made 459 free throws allowing us to make a $4,590 donation to Climb Wyoming. The season prior, 2017-18, our Cowboys made 567 free throws for a donation of $5,670 to Make-A-Wish® Wyoming.
This year, for the 2019-2020 season, UniWyo will be donating $10 to Jason's Friends Foundation for every free throw the University of Wyoming Cowboy Basketball team makes!
Jason's Friends Foundation was established in 1996 after the co-founder's son, Jason, lost his courageous 11-month battle with a brain stem tumor. Originally Jason's Friends Foundation had little money and focused more on providing personal assistance for families such as fixing meals and helping with shopping. It quickly became evident that what families needed most was financial assistance. For many years now, the majority of help provided to families includes some sort of financial support.
The vital help they provide means that Wyoming families whose kids are battling childhood cancer and brain or spinal cord tumors have the opportunity to maintain their quality of life, while focusing on the health of their child.
Since the inception of Jason's Friends Foundation in 1996, over $5,000,000 has been expended to Wyoming families. It is through the generosity of donors that they have been able to provide this level of assistance to our Wyoming families. So far in 2019, Jason's Friends has enrolled 22 new families compared to 13 in all of 2018. Currently, there are 133 families enrolled in the program.
